ABOUT ME

Who am I?

Welcome! My name is Nicky, and I am a Therapeutic Life Story Practitioner and a Supervisor with extensive experience supporting children, young people, and families on their journeys of healing and understanding.

 My Journey

I have spent my career working with children and young people in various roles. Previously, I was a Primary School Teacher and a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, specialising in delivering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This diverse experience laid the foundation for my current work as a trauma-informed practitioner, where I focus on empathy, kindness, and nurturing care to foster healing and growth.

Since 2021, I have been practising within the Local Authority's Cared for Team as a Therapeutic Life Story Practitioner Lead. In this role, I support team members with Life Story work, embedding this essential practice into caregiving. I now run my own private practice, offering Therapeutic Life Story interventions across Devon, Somerset, and Cornwall.

Professional Development

I am deeply committed to continuous learning. I hold a Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Life Story Work, awarded in 2023 after training with Richard Rose. I have also completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Levels 1 and 2, alongside numerous other specialised courses in trauma, attachment, and therapeutic communication.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Trauma-Informed Practice at the University of Nottingham. My focus is on exploring the benefits of Life Story work for looked-after children, a subject I am incredibly passionate about.

My Approach

As a trauma-informed practitioner, I believe in the transformative power of empathy, attuned care, and emotion validation.

My approach is rooted in the understanding that children and young people need caregivers who can:

  • Protect, nurture, and teach,

  • Co-regulate their emotions,

  • Help them develop self-regulation skills.

I work closely with children, young people, and their parenting adults to support this vital development, always tailoring my care to the unique needs of each family.
